Update: Renegade Chick of the Week, Tulsi Gabbard, Wins Democratic Primary Race in Hawaii

Back in May, we introduced you to Honolulu City Council member Tulsi Gabbard, who we named as our Renegade Chick of the Week for her fierce resume and determination to create change. If Gabbard wins, she will be the first person of the Hindu faith to serve in the U.S. Congress. On August 11th, Gabbard won the Democratic primary for the House of Representatives in a surprising victory over former Honolulu mayor Mufi Hannemann. India West reports, “Gabbard received 61,803 votes, or 55%, to 38,451 (34%) for Hannemann. Four other Democratic candidates split the rest of the ballots.”

Come November, Gabbard will face off against Republican David Kawika Crowley. Since Hawaii’s second district has a Democratic advantage, this should be a sure win for Gabbard. None of this is surprising though, Gabbard was the youngest person ever to serve in the Hawaii state legislature when she was 21 and we expect nothing but the best from her.

We will be keeping eye out for Gabbard and you should too. We know this woman is going places! Good luck Gabbard!
