The Rise of Aziz Ansari

Aziz Ansari is only 29 years old and he is already a regular household name. Since attending NYU in 2001, he has been performing standup comedy as well as acting. You may know him as Tom Haverford from “Parks & Recreation,” or possibly seen a show from his most recent standup tour “Dangerously Delicious.” While lounging it up on Saturday afternoon (I know, who stays cooped up inside when it’s 70 degrees out – no idea) my boyfriend downloaded Aziz’s standup show (for just $5 might I add) from his website Azizansari.com and we spent the next hour laughing our asses off. It’s funny because I can remember way back when, when he hosted the MTV Movie Awards (okay, it was in 2010, only two years ago, but it seriously feels like forever ago) and I kept seeing the commercial with him in it publicizing the event. Every time I saw it I would laugh – I just thought, “Who is this guy? He’s hilarious!” Well, his standup show that we downloaded was hilarious too – Aziz did not disappoint. It was especially funny because half way through the show I started IMDBing him, trying to find out more information about him and just as I was doing it, he actually had a whole skit about how all we do now when we go on the Internet is hunt down worthless information about people because we can. So true!

Aziz is the guy next door, the guy we all want to be friends with. In his spare time, while not shooting “Parks & Recreation” he has been starring in movies as well. I don’t know about you, but I’m excited to see where his career is going. My guess is – nowhere but up! Definitely download his comedy show here and don’t forget to tune into “Parks & Recreation” on NBC Thursday’s at 9:30pm EST. Love you, Aziz!
