The New Socially Conscious IT Shoes: Tieks!

I’m sure most of our readers by now are familiar with TOMS shoes and their 1 for 1 philosophy. If you haven’t, please check out our previous blog about them written by my fellow Renegade, Samantha Lee here.

TOMS has achieved a lot of media attention over the past couple of years and has really taken off as a brand due to their comfort, design, and cause for the greater good.   Well, for those of you who, like me, are always looking for socially conscious companies that help you feel like your hard earned dollars are going somewhere other than some rich man’s pocket, I am thrilled to introduce you to Tieks, by Gavrieli.

Tieks are a line of adorable, versatile, and relatively inexpensive designer flats. Every pair is made from 100% soft-grain leather for the utmost comfort and their sleek design makes your feet look slim (a real plus for someone like me who has Fred Flinstone-esque flat, fat, feet!) and stylish at the same time!  Did I mention that each pair is also foldable so you can stash them in your purse and throw them on when you get tired of your heels?  Bonus.

You can read more about Tieks here, but in the meantime, let’s get down to business.  Obviously this is a great product that would sell itself, but the real reason us Renegade Chicks are obsessed with Tieks is that they love to give back!  Tieks and the Gavrieli Foundation have formed a partnership with Kiva, which is an organization that specializes in giving microloans to small business owners all over the world!  These loans can be for anything from buying a cow so a farm can begin selling dairy, to purchasing school uniforms for resale.  To date, the Gavrieli Foundation has committed over $300,000 and helped thousands of individuals get the loans they need to start their businesses.

“The Gavrieli Foundation is an organization that is deeply committed to the empowerment of women around the globe as a means for social change. Through Kiva we are sending money to women in hopes of creating opportunity and alleviating poverty. We believe empowering women is a requisite in the broader fight against global poverty and hope our contribution has a profound impact on the lives of these woman and their families.”

Now that’s what I call a mission statement.  Make sure you visit www.Tieks.com and order yourself a pair today!   They are a favorite of Oprah’s and they are most certainly Renegade Chick approved!

Peace, love, and tie dye,

Sophia

Wow I love these shoes! I have been looking for a flat that is cute and stylish. The fact that they fold up and fit into a purse easily is amazing! Thanks for the tip!

Where are these shoes made? It would kind of defeat the purpose of the philanthropy if it turned out they’re made in China by factory workers making 25 cents an hour under poor conditions.
