On Your Wedding Day

jump

We all know the process – women spend months looking for the right wedding dress, wear it on that one special day and then they think, “What the hell do I do with this thing now?” My mother saved hers in its original box for decades, only to find that it had turned yellow. My sister got married a year ago and like many contemporary brides wondered if she should donate it to charity. She’s still considering this, but for the moment, it’s hanging in my mom’s closet. Another one bites the dust.

What do you plan to do with that oh so special dress? I saw the above picture on Pinterest and thought, “Why the hell not?” If you chose this route, you wouldn’t have to worry about answering the question, “Where is your dress now?” years later. All you would need to do is show this picture and it would be enough explanation. Live in that dress! It’s supposed to be the best day of your life – do something crazy to remember it by.

Clever idea! No need to trash the dress for this bride!

I love the idea of a “trash the dress” photo session after the wedding. Most photographers offer packages for this nowadays, just like with an engagement shoot. I totally should have done it! My dress is still hanging in a closet two years later. I didn’t preserve. I didn’t sell it like I planned. I think I’m going to go the charity route and donate it. Any suggestions on charities to donate to?

This website: (http://www.donatemyweddingdress.org/) lists a few different organizations that accept wedding dresses and donate the proceeds to a good cause. The Brides Project (www.thebridesproject.org) is also a bridal dress-specific organization that uses the proceeds to provide services to people diagnosed with cancer.
