My Review of Bring It On: The Musical
Yesterday, I was lucky enough to have off of work. So of course I had to go see a Broadway show with my mother, because why the hell not?!? After a lot of going back and forth, we finally agreed on going to see Bring It On: The Musical. It is only in NYC for a limited time, so we figured we would check it out sooner rather than later.
My mom and I thought that it was going to be just like the movie Bring It On, starring Kirsten Dunst and Gabrielle Union, but unfortunately, we were both mistaken.
The musical is not solely based on the original movie, but a combination of all the Bring It On films with a spin. As a Broadway connoisseur, I thought that the first act started off a little bit weak. The songs were just okay, and noting really happened that knocked my socks off. As soon as the “cheerleaders” came out and started doing flips & tricks, the show did seem to get a lot better and more exciting. When the second act started, I finally started to enjoy myself. Typically on Broadway, the main characters are the shining stars, but that was not the case for this particular show. The supporting characters were amazing, specifically the misfit named Bridgette.
So who is this musical for? This is for teenagers and young men and women in their twenties. This musical is very fresh and current and is a good introduction to Broadway for people who are a little hesitant to dive right into it. Watch the clip below to see if it’s for you.
