Listen: Missy Higgins

I had the good fortune to study abroad when I was in college, and got to experience life down under.  While I was there, I fell (musically) in love with Missy Higgins.

She writes her own songs, plays her own instruments, and has a damn good voice to boot.  What’s not to like?

I think one of the reasons Adele is so popular right now is that she’s unequivocally different.  Yes, her voice is beyond unique, but she also offers entertainment that only songstresses of the Lawrence Welk Show used to provide.  Gone are the days of musical talent, and in are the days of auto-tune.  Adele takes us back, and I believe Missy does just the same.
