Hunkering Down For Hurricane Sandy
For days now, we’ve been hearing about Hurricane Sandy and now we’re starting to see some real damage along the East Coast. As a New Yorker, you’re never really sure when to take these weatherman seriously, but this time, Hurricane Sandy isn’t messing around and many states aren’t taking any risks.
Part of me is happy because I am sitting on my couch working from home right now. I went food shopping yesterday and even though all of the stores looked like they were ransacked, I got what I needed and am safe in my apartment on the Upper West Side. In New York, the winds are crazy strong, but in NYC we really haven’t seen much damage yet. I do have a friend who had to evacuate downtown though and Con Ed has already shut down electricity down there just incase.
This huge storm, which the media has coined “Frankenstorm,” has winds as strong as 90mph and has already hit many states hard. Kelly Cass, an anchor for The Weather Channel, said, “One of the biggest storms of our lifetimes is unfolding right now.” In New York, the Staten Island Ferry, all subway stations, the PATH, and bridges have been shut down – but as always, New York is still going about it’s business anyway. Some stores are closed, but others are still operating.
Wherever you are, stay safe and let us know how things are in your area! We hope this passes quickly!
