Babe on a Budget: Interview Inspiration

As a post-grad who loves fashion and spends the majority of her day on Craigslist looking and applying for jobs—I have to constantly be ready for the possibility of an interview. That means I need to have my resume on hand, my eyebrows plucked and a sophisticated but fun outfit ready to be worn!

I’m no expert, but I have gone on several interviews and this is what I know:

1. An interview outfit should make you look your best. Whether it’s a suit or pieces put together, you should be glowing with confidence in your clothing.

2. What you wear shouldn’t just make you look fabulous, it should make you feel like you can and will get the job!  You should avoid wearing something that makes you uncomfortable because comfort is key—you want to feel your best.

3. While your outfit should be clean and look professional, I think you should always have a bit of personality shining through. This means a pop of color of pattern somewhere in your outfit—although it does depend where you are interviewing, adding a little edge keeps your outfit from being boring.

4. Be well groomed! Get your nails done (or do them yourself), make sure your eyebrows are looking nice, and your hair isn’t looking crazy. You want to look polished and put-together, not sloppy.

Here are some great pieces that I found at Macy’s, that will not only make you look fantastic and make a good impression with your interviewer, but will surely get you the job!

This Charter Club sleeveless bow blouse  in a lovely shade of azurean is a perfect combination of sophistication with a little bit of sass. You can pair this with any neutral-colored suit for a little brightness. You can find it for $43.99!

Calvin Klein top with a cowl neckline is the way to go! The pattern is subtle and balanced out by a soft pink. This top will look great with a blazer on and without! It’s feminine and fierce and you can get it for $39.50.

I’ve always loved skirts over pants and believe that a pencil-skirt is a staple not only for an interview but also for your work wardrobe! This Style & Co ponte pencil skirt is a classic black—it’s simple, sophisticated and on sale! Sold in an assortment of colors, get this skirt for only $24.98

No interview power outfit is complete without a badass blazer! This INC International shawl-collared fitted blazer adds a modern twist to a class piece. Sold in both black and blue, you can buy this blazer for $49.99.

Last but not least, you need a sweet pair of shoes that will add a little strut to your walk and complete the outfit. This pair of Chinese Laundry Mary Jane Pumps are the perfect height! They’re comfortable and give you a little bit of that secretary vibe. They also come in different colors! Buy them for only $44. 00.

As far as jewelry goes, keep it simple! Wear your favorite studs and keep bracelets and chunky rings to a minimum. You want to wear accessories, not let them wear you. Bring along your favorite bag, make sure your clothes are wrinkle-free and that you have an extra resume on hand and you are good to go to ace that interview!

Best of luck!
