It’s finally here! The moment all of us iPhone junkies have been waiting for has arrived—the new iPhone 5 can be yours in less than two weeks. The new sleeker, thinner phone was introduced on Wednesday at an Apple event in San Francisco.
If you’re like me, and almost every other functioning American, your smartphone encompasses your life, from communication to organization to entertainment. I have recently come to realize the serious attachment issues I had with my iPhone after tragically losing it in a taxi cab. With much devastation, I tracked my phone and watched it get whisked away to Queens and have not been reacquainted with it since. A lack of funds have forced me to continue my life in the 20th century and adapt to using an outdated Blackberry knock-off, prolonging my iPhone mourning period.
That being said, I am thrilled to hear the news of the iPhone 5 which will go on sale September 21st with pre-orders beginning on September 14th. This presents a wonderful excuse for me to ditch this poser phone and upgrade to a faster, more advanced version of my long-lost comrade. The phone is 18% thinner and 20% lighter and will feature a four-inch screen, a furthered improved camera, and 4G-LTE network which will increase download speeds by 10 times.
The changes are seemingly mild from a superficial point of view, but should increase productivity and efficiency exponentially. According to CNET , Senior Vice-President of Design, Jonathan Ive, stated, “With this unique relationship people have with their iPhone, we take changing it really seriously.” I think Ive has the right idea because I don’t want my iPhone to change; I just want it better and faster. The monumental role of the iPhone in this day; you can’t walk one block without passing 5 iPhones glued to either an ear or a palm. After the iPhone 4S drought last year, it isn’t unlikely that there will be a similar frenzy come the 21st. All you Apple nerds, don’t waste time and get that pre-order in on the 14th and avoid becoming technologically stinted like myself.
