Alpha Dog Obama Shows Up: A Recap of the 2nd Presidential Debate

Last night, we once again got the chance to see President Barack Obama and GOP candidate, Mitt Romney, duke it out at the second presidential debate. This time though, unlike at the first debate, Obama was ready to fight. We’re still not sure what his campaign’s game plan was the first time around, but this time, Obama really came out swinging and didn’t let Mitt take any shots at him.

New York Magazine writer, Jonathan Chait, writes, “This time around, Obama did not chew up time defending his record or delve into policy minutia. He used every question to pivot to a sharp attack on Romney. The combination of the ideologically hostile questions and Obama’s relentless attacks put Romney on the defensive, and kept him there.” I totally agree. Obama had Romney on the defensive the entire debate – which was nice to see for a change.

Last night was a night of zingers – and they were not one sided. Romney asked some very direct questions to the president, and Obama called Romney out on multiple counts. We all know that many candidates flip flop while campaigning, but this has definitely been taken to a whole new level. Check out the zingers below:

Wow, you can just feel the tension, right? While watching CNN’s roundup of the debate, two of their anchors were totally on point with their remarks – their back and forth’s were personal, you could tell they really don’t like one another. The best part is, at this point, they really don’t have to like each other. Their futures depend on these moments though and it’s important to be likable – which I think they both pulled off.

So, look’s like we have one more debate to watch and then it’s voting time! What did you think of last night’s debate? Did you think Obama or Romney won? What did you think of Candy’s job as moderator? Do you think both campaigns reeled her in? Share your thoughts below!
