Dinner and a movie might be a classic and timeless date idea, but it can get a little old.
As we transition from one season to the next, it’s important to get creative and change along with the weather. Autumn is one of the most beautiful times of the year—the colors of leaves are becoming brighter and crumbling beneath our feet, there’s a crisp edge to the air and everywhere you go seems to smell like warm spices. It’s the perfect time to warm up with that special someone and absorb the beautiful fall foliage.
Here are some autumn inspired date ideas that will guide you and your honey throughout the season:
Pick something up. By that I mean go apple and pumpkin picking! Put on your coziest jeans and jacket and find a local orchard that has trees so you can freshly pick some great fruit. You can even make an entire day of it—go apple or pumpkin picking and then spend the rest of the day making food and desserts that involve those ingredients. Apple pie. Pumpkin pie. Apple crisp. Pork chops with apple chutney. Carve the pumpkin and roast its seeds. Sounds delicious.
Go to a corn maze. A corn maze will test your sense of direction and can be lots of fun—invite other friends and have a competition to see who finishes first. Do it during the day if you have other plans for the evening but I recommend doing it at night, it makes it way more suspenseful, plus you can admire the moon and stars. Grab some hot chocolate afterwards to warm you up after being outside for so long.
Enjoy Halloween. I am a firm believer that you are never too old to dress up for Halloween. As you get ready for October 31st, consult your significant other and decide what you want to go as for the holiday—you can wear corresponding costumes or do your own thing. The rest of the night is yours to party it up. If you find yourself not being the dressing-up kind of couple, then stay at home with tons of candy and have a horror movie marathon. It’ll be the perfect excuse to cuddle up close (not that you need one anyway!)
Get scared at a haunted house. Speaking of Halloween, as the days draw closer to the holiday this is a must. Look up reviews of nearby haunted houses and pick the scariest. Though you might be terrified in the moment, you’ll have lots of fun teasing one another later about how loud the screams were.
Sip some coffee. We all know that it’s pumpkin-spice time at all coffeehouses right now so go out and enjoy it. Coffee dates are cute and cheap—and there’s something available for everyone, even those among us who don’t drink caffeine. Schedule this in the middle of the day or later in the afternoon and spend some down time sipping on your favorite beverages and enjoying each other’s company.
Enjoy the scenery and stroll. Fall is arguably the most visually striking time of the year. Though it’s not an incredibly original idea, just grab your honey’s hand and go for a walk. It’s always nice to be outside and there’s no other time as refreshing. Find a local park and admire the temporary beauty around you. You will not regret it.
These are just a couple of ideas for the season, but there are so many more! What are some of your favorite fall activities to do with friends and with the one you love?
